This week we are celebrating the first anniversary of my rebirth. Last March I'd become as sick as I've ever been. My blood was toxic. My kidneys had failed. They were operating at 9% of capacity. I smelled like ammonia. I slept most of the time. Food tasted like cardboard. I could barely complete a sentence.
On March 27, 2013 one of my sister-in-law Jane's perfectly healthy kidneys was carefully removed from her body and strategically reattached to my body by Dr. Amy Gallo at Stanford Hospital.
And every day since then, I have stepped into each moment with ever-increasing buoyancy, vitality and optimism. I feel like a young man. I smell good again. My blood continues to become ever-more iron-rich and oxygenated, feeding my organs, my brain(!!!) and every part of me with newfound energy.
May my good health and high-functioning brain serve my family, my friends and my community. May my hand and my heart stand ready to help another. So many loving people have carried me to this lively place. May I use all that I've been given to return the love everywhere it may flow. Namasté, dear reader.
